Laiks nav pielūdzams. Tas aiznes līdzi visu, kas kļuvis nespēcīgs, satrunējis, nodzīvojis savu mūžu, un izlauž ceļu jaunajam, progresīvajam. Kā augstākais tiesnesis tas negrozāmi nospriež, kuru gaida nemirstība, kuru – aizmirstība. Laiks smejas par to ļaužu neauglīgajiem mēģinājumiem, kuri cenšas apstādināt, aizkavēt vēstures gaitu. Laiks ir kopā ar tiem, kuri skatās uz priekšu, sapņo, cīnās, ceļ nākotni. Jau Majakovskis rakstīja: “Nākotne pati neatnāks, ja par to necīnīsimies!” Nākotne nav aiz kalniem. To sasniegs visa cilvēce, un padomju tauta jau tagad veido to. Šī nākotne ir komunisms. Laiks strādā komunisma labā!

Visbeidzot pateicos Marijai (segvārds), kas šodien dzīvo Lozannā, ir precējusies un audzina divas brīnišķīgas meitas. Stāsts, ko Marija daudzās jo daudzās tikšanās reizēs uzticēja man un Monikai, ir šīs grāmatas pamatā.

Un, tā kā šķiet, ka droši vien nekādi pierādījumi turpmāk nav gaidāmi, tad mums nekas cits neatliek kā atturēties no galīgā sprieduma par šo tematu.

Well, we know that the course of history has been far different from what I have assumed to be the case. We know that the savage dies out very slowly, and that even in civilised States to-day he is honoured in the existence of a whole army of representatives. Each generation moves along the road marked out by its predecessors, and broadens or lengthens it to but a small extent. For many, many generations people went on adopting the conclusions of the savage concerning man and the universe, and finding proofs of the soundness of those conclusions in exactly the same kind of experiences. The beliefs thus engendered were wild and absurd – admittedly so, and many of such a nature that educated people are now ashamed of them. But such as they were, they served the purpose of perpetuating the belief in the supernatural, and so served to strengthen the general religious idea. Of that there can be no reasonable doubt. For the influence of beliefs that have been long held does not end with the intellectual perception of their falsity. A belief such as witchcraft dies out, but by that time it has done its work in familiarising the general mind with the reality of the supernatural, and so prepares the ground for other harvests. These long centuries of superstitious beliefs have left behind in society a psychological residuum that is at all times an obstacle and is sometimes fatal to scientific thinking. We are like men who have obtained freedom after almost a lifetime of slavery. We may be no longer in any real danger of the lash, but fear of the whip has become part of our nature, and we shrink without cause. So with all those now admitted delusions that have been described in the foregoing pages, and which for generations were asserted without question. They bit deeply in to social institutions; the temper of mind they induced became part of our social heritage. They perpetuated the long reign of supernaturalism, and still interpose a serious obstacle to sane and helpful conceptions of man and the universe.

A sky-hawk that tauntingly had followed the main-truck downwards from its natural home among the stars, pecking at the flag, and incommoding Tashtego there; this bird now chanced to intercept its broad fluttering wing between the hammer and the wood; and simultaneously feeling that etherial thrill, the submerged savage beneath, in his death-gasp, kept his hammer frozen there; and so the bird of heaven, with archangelic shrieks, and his imperial beak thrust upwards, and his whole captive form folded in the flag of Ahab, went down with his ship, which, like Satan, would not sink to hell till she had dragged a living part of heaven along with her, and helmeted herself with it.  Now small fowls flew screaming over the yet yawning gulf; a sullen white surf beat against its steep sides; then all collapsed, and the great shroud of the sea rolled on as it rolled five thousand years ago.

In order to have a real grasp of Marxism, one must learn it not only from books, but mainly through class struggle, through practical work and close contact with the masses of workers and peasants. When in addition to reading some Marxist books our intellectuals have gained some understanding through close contact with masses of workers and peasants and their own practical work, we will all be speaking the same language, not only the common language of patriotism and the common language of the socialist system, but probably even the common language of the communist world outlook. If that happens, all of us will certainly work much better.

20. Indivīds grupā: grupa, darbnīca vai uzņēmums nedrīkst “iznīcināt” indivīdu, tiem ir jāļauj indivīdam sevi realizēt viņam raksturīgā ritmā un ar viņam raksturīgajām bagātībām vai specifisko potenciālu.

Jau vairāk nekā divdesmit gadus Rīgā latviešu un krievu valodā iznāk žurnāls “Šahs”, kas guvis lasītājus visā Padomju Savienībā un gandrīz 50 ārvalstīs.

Tikai ar skatienu, kurā jautās kas līdzīgs vēlīgai dalībai, mājienam, ka starp abiem radušās kādas saites – meistara un mācekļa attiecības,- ar šo skatienu vien jogs uzņēma Dasu par savu skolnieku. Šis skatiens aizliedza Dasam domāt veltīgas domas, pakļāva viņu stingrai kalpībai. Tas ir viss, kas stāstāms par Dasas dzīvi, atlikušais notika viņpus tēliem un norisēm. Mežu viņš vairs neatstāja.

Souls that have lived in virtue are in general happy, and when separated from the irrational part of their nature, and made clean from all matter, have communion with the gods and join them in the governing of the whole world.
